Crunches are a great ab workout
exercise you can do. But, like most things in life, the basic crunches that we
used to do in gym class have evolved. They have evolved into a better workout
and one that will give better results for your body.
Crunches on the ball not on the floor
Sitting on an exercise ball to perform
your crunches is a great example of how crunches have changed over the years.
Many people actually feel less back strain and neck strain when they use a
stability ball for crunches. One reason for decreased neck strain is that the
angle of your body. If neck discomfort is one reason you hate crunches on the
floor try them on the ball and you will notice a significant difference.
Another reason crunches on the ball are
a great alternative to crunches on the floor is an increased range of motion
through the spine. When you move through a greater range of motion, you will
get increased muscle work in your abdominals.
Crunches on bicycle
Start by doing a basic crunch with your
hands held gently behind your head. Do not pull with your arms. After you curl
your torso all the way up, pause, now bring your left knee toward your arms and
attempt to touch you right elbow. You can twist your torso slightly, again do
not pull with your arms and do not worry if you are not able to touch elbow to
knee.
Stay curled up and now extend the left
leg all the way out straight, parallel to the floor and now try to touch the
right knee to the left elbow. That is one rep. Repeat until you are fatigued.
Crunches on full vertical way
This crunch involves the upper and
lower abs. It is done by lying on your back with your legs extended towards the
ceiling. You place your hands behind your head and lift the shoulder blades off
of the floor. At the same time you create a "u" shape with your torso
by pressing your heels towards the ceiling.
There are literally thousands of ways
to an ab workout exercise, you can still get a great ab workout exercise by
using the above alternative. Strong abdominals are so important so don't let
anyone stop you from strengthening your core.
An ab workout exercise is only as good
as the time you spend on it. Make sure you learn from some of the best experts
out there.
